Paul Wells in Conversation: Jean Charest

The former premier on trade, natural resources and the PQ

maCLEANS-CHRETIEN-01.21.14-TORONTO, ON: Master of ceremonies Jean Charest speaks with attendees at the Westin Hotel metropolitan ball room in attendance for former Canadian prime minister Jean Chretien’s 80th birthday tribute titled “50 years of standing up for Canada.

Jean Charest salutes Chrétien.

No, Jean Charest does not want to return to politics. But in a real sense he hasn’t been far away. Since he barely lost the 2012 Quebec election, the province’s former premier has kept an eye on its politics while travelling the world as a lawyer and deal-maker. Charest gave a keynote address to the Canada2020 conference, sat on a panel about energy and the environment, and then spoke to Maclean’s about Canada-Europe trade, big resources projects, and his analysis of the Parti Québécois’s leadership race.
