NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. — NDP Leader Tom Mulcair is offering financial incentives for automakers and auto parts suppliers in an effort to generate jobs in the industry.
Mulcair was campaigning Wednesday in Niagara Falls, Ont., where he announced he would set aside an additional $90 million to the automotive supplier innovation program over the next five years.
In April, the federal government announced $100 million for the program, which is intended to foster automotive technology development and boost the competitiveness of Canada’s automotive supply chain.
Mulcair also said an NDP government would make contributions to companies from the automotive innovation fund tax-free.
His promise for the automotive sector comes a day after he committed additional funding for the aerospace industry.
