Three highlights from this afternoon’s post-Question Period scrums:

1. President of the Treasury Board Tony Clement on the appointment of the next Parliamentary Budget Officer: Obviously, this is entirely up to the Chief Librarian. She’s got the file. We respect the process. We respect the fact that she’s got this role and responsibility so we will let the process—we respect the process so we will let the process unfold.

2. Liberal MP Francis Scarpaleggia on aboriginal incarceration: This problem is highly identified with this government. I mean, the major increase in incarcerated Aboriginals has been under this government. So I think, you know, it behooves them to respond in some meaningful way to the problem since the statistics are so clear. You know, the rate of increase hasn’t been the same over 20 years. It’s really sped up under this government.

3. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty on when he’ll table Budget 2013: Stay tuned. Very soon. Not the budget, but the date. Very soon. [Question: Next week?] Maybe sooner.
