Carlton Trail College

Located in the heart of Saskatchewan, Carlton Trail College offers students the opportunity to learn where they live. With campuses in Humboldt, Watrous and Wynyard, a learning centre in Punnichy, and classrooms throughout the region, Carlton Trail provides programs and services that serve the l needs of students, business and industry in east-central Saskatchewan. 

Education at Carlton Trail is linked to key industries in the region, including health care, mining and manufacturing. In-person offerings include trades and technology, health and safety, and computers and technology, while online programs enable individuals to learn from their own homes. A minimum two-week work-experience component is incorporated into all full-time institute credit programs. Safety tickets and related industry training may be offered in select programs. Scholarships are available to students enrolled in programs that are 12 weeks or longer. 

Services like academic advising, career planning, scholarships, and employment supports help transition the student from education to employment. More than 90 percent of the school’s post-secondary graduates find employment in their field. 

The Humboldt campus’s facilities are connected to a building it shares with the municipality, which includes a fitness centre, curling rink, skating rink, swimming pool and convention centre. Courses in the welding program take place at the nearby trades building in Humboldt, while electrical and nursing programs are offered in Watrous.

Carlton Trail is one of seven regional colleges in Saskatchewan that offer courses created by other post-secondary schools in the province.

• Training for the Mining Industry: Students are well-prepared to enter the mining industry with programs that include mining essentials (with training from the Mining Industry Human Resources Council) and pre-apprenticeship trades training.

• Heavy Equipment Operator: This program offers specialty training on two pieces of equipment, including a crawler tractor, an excavator or a front-end loader.

• Volunteer Firefighter Training: This program delivers training to more than 40 volunteer fire departments in the province.
