Surrounded by the beauty of B.C.’s West Coast, North Island College (NIC) offers more than 90 programs that lead to associate degrees, diplomas and certificates. It also provides apprenticeship training, international exchanges, continuing education opportunities and academic upgrading. NIC’s facilities serve a region of 80,000 sq. km, which includes northern Vancouver Island and B.C.’s mainland coast from Bamfield to Bella Coola. NIC has campuses in Campbell River, the Comox Valley, Port Alberni and Port Hardy, a learning centre in Ucluelet and a temporary location in Comox, as well as online, distance learning and in-community training options.
NIC offers transfer opportunities with universities across Canada and the world. They include dual and guaranteed admission agreements with the University of Victoria and Vancouver Island University. NIC is home to internationally recognized faculty members, such as award-winning psychologist Evelyn Voyageur, who counsels survivors for the Indian Residential School Society, wood joinery expert Stephen McIntosh and criminology instructor Geri Bemister, who has appeared on the A&E show Intervention.
Continuing projects at NIC’s Centre for Applied Research, Technology and Innovation include research in aquaculture, nursing education in Indigenous communities, and Indigenous leadership. NIC offers courses in Nuu-chah-nulth and Kwak’wala, which are delivered with the help of fluent local Elders and knowledge keepers.

- Nursing: Offered in partnership with Vancouver Island University, this degree focuses on Indigenization, includes trips to remote First Nations communities, and combines teaching in leadership, advocacy and political action.
- Adventure Guiding: Prepare for work as a guide in adventure tourism by developing skills in sea kayaking, sailing, mountaineering, interpretation, wilderness first aid, navigation and more.
- Digital Design and Development: Learn to design and code digital resources. Focus on web development or mobile apps.
