Selkirk College Canoe Trip

Outdoor enthusiasts will love the setting of Selkirk College. The West Kootenay–Boundary region offers mountain trails, rock climbing and water activities such as kayaking, fishing and paddle boarding. Red Mountain and Whitewater ski hills are just 30 minutes from Selkirk College’s campuses in Castlegar and Nelson, respectively. A stunning mountain bike trail system runs through all of the college’s communities.

Selkirk College offers more than 60 associate degree, diploma, certificate and apprenticeship programs. Educational options range from ceramics and forest technology to engineering and nursing; it incubates talented musicians in its contemporary music and technology program. Its main campus is in Castlegar, while the college has three campuses in Nelson, another in Trail and three learning centres in Grand Forks, Kaslo and Nakusp. The Tenth Street campus in Nelson offers dorm-style residences, while single-room, suite-style accommodations are available at Castlegar.

The trades-based Silver King campus in Nelson recently completed a $22-million refresh. It features modern shop spaces, a new Student Commons Building and a new hair salon where students in the hairstylist program can get real-world experience. Selkirk College received more than $1 million from the B.C. government to create a child care centre on the Silver King campus, which opened in September 2021.
