Centre collégial de l’Alberta

The Centre collégial de l’Alberta is run through Campus Saint-Jean, the French-language faculty at the University of Alberta. The school opened in 2014 in response to a demand for college-level courses from Alberta’s growing francophone population. The province currently has the fourth-largest French-speaking population in the country; more than 200,000 Alberta primary and secondary school students enrolled in French-language programs in 2017-18.

The college offers two-year diploma programs in business administration, early childhood education and tourism management, most of which are also offered through distance learning. Partnerships with NAIT’s JR Shaw School of Business and Lakeland College provide students with even more expertise and options. The college recently added a health-care aide certificate program. The school prides itself on small class sizes and a supportive atmosphere for students.

Located in Edmonton’s French Quarter neighbourhood, the campus is a cultural hub for Alberta’s francophones and includes Le Carrefour, a French-language bookshop and boutique. Eligible students can apply to stay at Résidence Saint-Jean, where residents commit to living in an entirely French-speaking environment for a total immersion experience. Anyone can join a range of francophone student clubs and sports teams. A free shuttle links Campus Saint-Jean to the University of Alberta’s North Campus.
