Named after the legendary landscape painter of the Pacific Northwest, Emily Carr University of Art + Design is more than a world-class centre for fine arts education. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in fine art, media art and design. Each concentration aims for a healthy mix of in-studio learning and theory.

State-of-the-art facilities abound at Emily Carr. A motion capture and visualization lab, digital and cell animation studio, sound mixing studios, wearables and interactive labs are among its numerous features. It’s also one of the few institutions in Canada with full stereoscopic 3D film and animation equipment and a focus on virtual reality.

Emily Carr’s new 289,730-sq.-foot campus is located in False Creek Flats, Vancouver. The campus is on the Central Valley Greenway, a 24-km pedestrian and cyclist route in Metro Vancouver that runs from Science World downtown to New Westminster in Burnaby. The campus houses multiple bike racks and storage lockers and features several galleries including the Libby Leshgold Gallery, Michael O’Brian Exhibition Commons and the award-winning READ Books bookstore. With its light-filled studios, the new campus is designed to encourage new ways of thinking.

During their third year, students can go abroad to study at one of 70 art and design institutes, including Germany’s Universität der Künste Berlin.
