Ditching the Sombreros

I’ve arrived in New Orleans for the final trilateral summit of the Bush era. On the ride from the airport I saw a smattering of signs: “No Amero” and “Obey the Constitution” and one just simply said, “Traitors.”
Should be an interesting two days.

Here is my piece from this week’s magazine about a growing sense in Ottawa that maybe the three amigos/North American thing is not the best strategy through which to push for a more open northern border when the US public and Congress wants to wall off its southern border… Is it? Just asking.

Ditch the sombreros: Should Ottawa quit a continental strategy and go back to one-on-one with the U.S.?

Today, the Globe and Mail has a similar story.

Meanwhile, it’s the last summit of the Bush administration. Also in this week’s mag, I ask whether there is anything we might miss about him.
