Jim Prentice to run in Calgary-Foothills in Oct. 27 by-election

Byelections next month will fill four vacant seats in the legislature

CALGARY — Alberta Premier Jim Prentice says byelections to fill four vacant seats in the legislature will be held Oct. 27.

Prentice says he will run in the constituency of Calgary-Foothills.

The seat opened when Independent Len Webber stepped down this morning to run federally.

Other Tory byelection candidates include police Sgt. Mike Ellis in Calgary-West, one-time school board chairman Gordon Dirks in Calgary-Elbow and former Edmonton mayor Stephen Mandel in Edmonton-Whitemud.

Dirks and Mandel were brought into cabinet by Prentice earlier this month as education and health ministers, respectively.

Calgary-West became vacant when former energy minister Ken Hughes resigned today to go back to the private sector.
