Ode to the pronghorn antelope

The full text of the Prime Minister’s remarks last night is now posted here.

Now if I can, allow me to return for just a moment to environmental conservation. And let me just say this – I won’t take too much of your time but I just want to this – as conservatives, we believe in both environmental protection and economic growth.

And we believe there is no inherent contradiction in that. On the contrary, you know well, look around the world, we know that the poorer a society, almost invariably, the worse the state of its environmental protections.

His 2009 speech to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is also worth a read.

Ode to the pronghorn antelope

  1. Luckily for the pronghorn saving it didn’t necessitate scaling back on oil exploration. Iows it didn’t cost them anything.
Now if we look at the less fortunate woodland caribou, it’s habitat requirements clash with the interests of the oil lobby. No “con”servationists to be found there. Kill the wolves and put the caribou in the lock up is the best the oil boys can manage. Big on sacrifice these guys…as long as it isn’t theirs.
