Talking about royal fashions is nothing new. At its core is a desire to see what one of the most famous young women in the world wears, and then voting thumbs up or down on her style. It didn’t start with Kate. Before her, Diana was a fashion icon, as was Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth II when they were young.

Royal fashion watching is more than a cottage industry, it’s big business. L.K. Bennett was an up-and-coming British retailer until Kate started wearing their clothes and shoes. Now it’s a global business. Ditto Reiss, Hobbs and a host of other brands that Kate regularly wears.

It’s escapism from the tough stories of the day. It’s also fun.

So here is Maclean’s continuing look on the fashions of the 2016 royal visit to Canada.
