Dave Batters, 1969-2009

Sad news from Saskatchewan.

“The family of Dave Batters is grieving the sudden loss of their beloved husband, son and brother, who sadly chose to take his own life at home in Regina on Monday, June 29. Last fall, Dave courageously made public his battle with depression and anxiety when he chose not to run for re-election as the Member of Parliament for Palliser. He entered treatment and his family and friends hoped he would overcome his illness. Tragically, this was not to be.

“Dave and Denise’s family greatly appreciates the support of their friends during this extremely difficult time and requests that the media respect their privacy. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.”

More from Kady. Reaction from James Moore, Tim Powers, Andrew Scheer, Cheryl Gallant, Patrick BrownRick Dykstra and Jason Kenney.

Dave Batters, 1969-2009

  1. I met Dave during my time on Parliament Hill working with the Liberals… and even then, I appreciated what a kind man he was despite our political differences. When he was a new MP getting sorted out on the Hill I had the privilege of helping him and his staff out a bit as we shared the same hallway of offices. He was immensely gracious, kind and just a decent guy — always willing to chat and just an all-around good guy. I have also been diagnosed with depression and anxiety as well, and reading this just re-enforces my desire to overcome this awful condition.

God Bless the Batters family during this time — he was a good man!

  2. Dave Batters what can I say…. a great pharmaseutical rep… a great person and I am sure a great Politician. I cannot say anything but how great this man was and you can tell that he was a go getter. Too bad his life had to end in such trajedy, seeing as he was so happy on the outside. I loved your visits Dave at our medical office in Langenburg years ago and hearing of this loss is one of the saddest things ever… I hate depression, I hate suicide and I just don't know how your family is feeling… but as just one person in this world that met him… I loved him the minute he smiled! Take care, Mrs. Batters and the Batters family!
