Bill Clinton undergoes heart procedure

Former U.S. president had quadruple bypass heart surgery in 2004

UPDATE: Bill Clinton has been released from hospital and is recovering at home in New York.

Former U.S. president Bill Clinton has undergone heart surgery in which two stents—wire mesh tubes used to prop open arteries during angioplasty—were placed in one of his coronary arteries. The 63-year-old was admitted to Columbia Presbyterian hospital in Manhattan earlier today after complaining of chest pains. “President Clinton is in good spirits, and will continue to focus on the work of his Foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts,” said Douglas Band, Clinton’s lawyer.
