Surprise, surprise: Guardian Council finds no problem with Iranian election

Authorities confirm Ahmadinejad’s victory after partial recount

Iran’s Guardian Council announced on Monday that a partial recount of the votes cast in the disputed presidential election have confirmed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the winner. State broadcaster Press TV reported the recount uncovered no irregularities in the vote. Both Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karoubi, the two reformist candidates for the presidency, had called for the vote to be annulled. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the partial recount would do little to restore the Iranian regime’s credibility, dismissing the process as a “limited review of a relatively small number of ballots.”
