Until I read the AV Club’s post on novelty singles by comedians, I didn’t realize that Peter Sellers had done a TV version of his “Laurence Olivier” take on the Beatles’ “A Hard Day’s Night.” (Scroll down to # 12 in the article.) This and his other Beatles cover, “She Loves You” in the voice of Dr. Strangelove — “She Luffs You, Ja, Ja, Ja” — stand with “Auntie Rotter” (Sellers as a children’s show host who instructs her audience in how to brutally murder their parents) and a few others among Sellers’ most famous comedy records, but here he is doing it on British TV, and with the actual Beatles present.
