It’s not true that Michael Fortier spent $140,000 in taxpayer money to renovate an office the size of a bachelor apartment. No, he was really conducting an undercover operation to unmask reckless spending in the Parliamentary office-renovation branch. I’m pretty sure the cheesy stubble-beard was part of his disguise. Excellent work, Inspector!
How coincidental is it that two of Mr. Harper’s most poorly chosen ministers (Maxime Bernier and Michael Fortier) are now reported to be two of his government’s most egregious spenders?

So Mr. Fortier’s off to International Trade, but as he’s remains steadfastly unelected, he won’t be able to speak to the portfolio in the House. The job of rising on his behalf will, one assumes, go to the secretary of state for international trade. And who’s that? You guessed it—Helena Guergis.
